Michelle White

Trustee

Michelle has been a trustee since 2021.

An anaesthetist from Bristol, Michelle first joined Mercy Ships as a short-term volunteer onboard the Anastasis in December 2005 and undertook four more short-term volunteer stints before becoming a full-time volunteer on board the Africa Mercy from 2012-2017. During that time, she worked as the Anaesthesia Supervisor; developed the Medical Capacity Building side of Mercy Ships’ operations, which trains local healthcare workers and is designed to strengthen the entire surgical health system; and served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer from 2014 – 2017.

She has been a mentor to many people on board and is highly regarded for her expertise.

Michelle left the ship in 2017 to take up the role of Consultant Anaesthetist at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and continues to serve annually as a short-term volunteer with Mercy Ships both as an anaesthetist, and a trainer in the Medical Capacity Building Programs.
