Fourteen-year-old Tera lives in Madagascar. When he was just a baby, Tera crawled and knocked over a pot of boiling hot water. He was severely burnt as the water spilled all over him.
Unable to afford medical care, his family turned to traditional healers. Sadly, his wounds soon became infected. The burnt skin formed a tight contracture, which fused his foot and ankle together.
For the next 13 years, Tera walked barefoot. He couldn’t wear shoes and struggled to walk.
Rejection stung the most on the football pitch: “I like playing football. But my friends rejected me because I can’t play so I left, crying, feeling very sad.”
Thanks to your kind gifts like yours, Tera had free surgery when Mercy Ships came to Madagascar.
With his mum and little brother cheering him on, Tera tackled recovery, determined to walk, run – and play.
He returned home determined to play football. Now, he isn’t standing on the sidelines, he’s part of the community team.
Tera stepped onto the pitch, proudly wearing his favourite shirt as a goalie.
A joyful crowd watched him play a game that continued till sunset, cheering him on – “Tera, Tera, Tera!”
Stories of transformation like Tera’s are possible because of friends like you.
