The cuddly cat making a world of difference

Who’d have thought the sale of a cuddly cat could raise over £100,000 of life-saving funds? It’s absolutely astonishing and we want to say a massive thank you to long-term supporter, Emma Cruises, whose creativity and compassion made this possible.

Emma’s latest version of Captain Hudson, V5, has raised an incredible £16,405, plus a huge number of generous supporters gave around £6,700 just simply to bless the work of Mercy Ships. There are now over 10,000 Captain Hudson cats worldwide and Emma regularly gets sent photos of these cuddly mascots on cruise ships.

Emma’s toy cats recently made the journey to Mercy Ships where Emma had the chance to give them to patients on the hospital ward.

After spending almost a week visiting the Global Mercy in Sierra Leone, Emma created an amazing video showcasing all that she saw. Along with her insight and thoughts on meeting patients and seeing the work of Mercy Ships firsthand, it was also fascinating to hear how many similarities the Global Mercy holds to traditional cruise ships.

“Visiting the Global Mercy in Sierra Leone is an experience I’ll never forget, and I’m so glad I was able to document and share it,” says Emma. “Meeting the volunteers and patients was incredible, and I’m so proud of our community for raising such an amazing amount for Mercy Ships. A massive thank you to everyone who made this possible. The money raised will go a long way – I’ve seen the impact with my own eyes.”

Emma has reviewed over 60 cruises for the holiday market and her insights into the cabin space, the food provided for the crew and even the light switches on the Global Mercy were extraordinary.

To see for yourself how Emma’s mind was completely blown by the work of Mercy Ships, take a look at her video:

Emma, thank you so much for sharing the work of Mercy Ships with people all over the world and in doing so, raising an astonishing £139,572 for women, men and children in sub-Saharan Africa for whom safe surgery is out of reach.
