06 Sep Mercy Ships Partners with PROPELme for Seafarer Talent Search
- Mercy Ships is a faith-based international charity that deploys hospital ships to some of the poorest countries in the world, delivering free, life-saving healthcare to the people who need it most.
- PROPELme is a lifestyle platform that aims to ‘revolutionise seafarers’ lives at sea’ by providing the best career opportunities, content, bespoke features, and perks.
- Recruit by PROPELme is a set of industry-leading tools for finding, engaging, and retaining seafarers.
Mercy Ships and PROPELme are announcing our new partnership today that will provide access to industry-leading seafarer talent search tools and a platform to communicate directly with the maritime industry.
Volunteer seafarers are the backbone of Mercy Ships, whose work includes over 11,000 vital surgical and dental procedures, as well as training more than 700 local medical professionals throughout 2021. So far in 2022, the volunteer surgeons onboard the Africa Mercy have performed more than 270 surgeries in the Port of Dakar, transforming the lives of patients, families, and communities. Mariners operate the ships, so the medical teams can perform smooth and safe life-changing procedures.
Mercy Ships currently has two state-of-the-art vessels. The first is the Africa Mercy and the second one is the new Global Mercy, the world’s first and largest purpose-built charity hospital ship and floating medical school. To crew both ships, Mercy Ships offers opportunities for 2,600 volunteers from 70 nations each year, with over 200 different volunteer roles onboard to choose from.
Through the partnership, Mercy Ships will have access to tools and features to connect directly with PROPELme’s seafarer community – one of the largest in the world – as well as supporting recruitment activities for volunteer seafarer roles.
Darren Richards, Director of Engagement for Mercy Ships UK said:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with PROPELme. Our volunteer seafarers are critical in allowing us to realise our vision to provide free surgery to those living in unjust poverty, mobilise volunteers, and to empower African healthcare colleagues. Through using PROPELme we’ve got a direct line of communication to the maritime industry and access to a community of skilled individuals who may feel called to volunteer as crew members!”
Samuel Lee, Co-Founder at PROPELme said:
“PROPELme is proud to see its tools and features used to support the work of Mercy Ships, supporting their mission to provide free healthcare to people in desperate need. I’m sure the members of PROPELme will enjoy the updates of the good work of Mercy Ships and even be inspired to volunteer.”
