Marathon runner hits his £4k target after completing London Marathon

A Stevenage man completed the London Marathon and has raised an incredible £4,000 for Mercy Ships.

Ian Clark, 52, saw his JustGiving page rocket in the days leading up to the event and the £2,000 he raised has been doubled by SSY, a leading shipbroking firm and the charity’s global partner where Ian works in the accounts team.

The runner completed the marathon in a respectable four hours and ten minutes. It was the second time he had competed and said the crowd’s support got him to the finish line.

Afterwards, he said:

“Wow, what an incredible experience! The crowds were amazing and really helped lift me when I needed it and if you had seen me coming out of Canary Wharf you’d have known I was struggling!

“I must give a huge thank you to Mercy Ships for giving me the opportunity whilst also raising funds for such an amazing cause. Your work is truly life-changing for so many people, and I’m grateful to be a part of it and also thanks to SSY for doubling the amount raised.”

SSY recently announced Mercy Ships as one of their global partners. For many years they have supported Mercy Ships through Cargo Day – the biggest online fundraising event for the maritime community.

Now, the long-established shipbrokers are extending their support by championing the cause with their 24 global offices.
