Will you turn on our Christmas lights for a child like Maurinho?
Onboard the Africa Mercy our Christmas lights are the lights in our operating theatres, in our recovery wards, in the waiting areas and in our outpatient facility.
These lights are the last thing a child like Maurinho will see from the operating table as they get ready for surgery, and they are the first thing they see when they wake up in the recovery ward.
Shortly after Maurinho's third birthday, his legs began to bow inwards. He was in pain and found it difficult to walk. Eventually, his parents took him out of school but they did not lose hope for their son.
When they heard about the arrival of the Africa Mercy in their country they brought Maurinho to see our doctors. And, thanks to the generosity of caring friends like you, he received free, life-changing surgery onboard our hospital ship.
Right now, other sick children like Maurinho are waiting to receive life-changing surgery. Our dedicated team of volunteer nurses, doctors, surgeons will be working hard this Christmas to help them.
As nurse Merryl Hoey put it: “It’s a privilege for me to be on the Africa Mercy at Christmas. Although I will miss my family I have chosen to be here. Our presence helps to reduce each patient’s sense of fear and pain. When I hear how children like Maurinho have suffered all their lives I want to do all I can to help them.”
Every day during this Christmas season Merryl will be turning on the lights in one of the Africa Mercy’s operating theatres as she helps with life-changing surgeries.
Will you join nurse Merryl in turning on our Christmas lights by giving £30, £60 or whatever you can share today?
Because of your generosity more children like Maurinho can have the best Christmas present they will ever get - the gift of a life free from pain and suffering.
Every gift you give before 31 December 2017 to help children like Maurinho will be DOUBLED FOR FREE, thanks to the support of an anonymous donor.
Thank you for your generosity.
