05 May Captain Hudson’s legacy lives on, funding life-saving work
We love writing updates on the incredible work of global cruising Youtuber, Emma, who raises awareness and funds for Mercy Ships. But this year, we start on a slightly sombre note.
Over the last few years, Emma has created cuddly versions of her very own cat, Captain Hudson, selling them to the cruise community with all profits helping to fund the life-saving surgeries on our two ships.
But sadly this year, the real Captain Hudson passed away at the age of 12 due to an untreatable medical condition. We are so sorry for Emma’s loss and want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you. Captain Hudson cuddly cats have raised over £133,000 for Mercy Ships, leaving an incredible legacy impacting hundreds of lives.
We spoke to Emma about how this felt for her:
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone who ordered a Captain Hudson to support Mercy Ships,” says Emma. “The latest version is our sixth and I never expected the support we’ve gained.
“Unfortunately, my real Hudson passed away during the sale of the latest version but it makes me so happy to know that so many people loved him. His legacy will live on and there are thousands of Captain Hudson’s out there right now spreading the message of Mercy Ships.”
Emma first heard about Mercy Ships in 2005. Since then, she has shared the transformational stories of patients on Mercy Ships with her 350,000 followers. Last year Emma had the chance to spend a week on the Global Mercy and was amazed by what she saw.
“Visiting the Global Mercy in Sierra Leone is an experience I’ll never forget, and I’m so glad I was able to document and share it,” says Emma. “Meeting the volunteers and patients was incredible, and I’m so proud of our community for raising such an amazing amount for Mercy Ships. A massive thank you to everyone who made this possible. The money raised will go a long way – I’ve seen the impact with my own eyes.”
A big thank you to Emma and Captain Hudson for all your support.
