Welcome to the Scottish website page of Mercy Ships UK
Across Scotland we have a growing number of wonderful volunteers and fundraisers who work tirelessly to help raise vital funds through a variety of fundraising events from abseils to fashion shows and from Easter Breakfasts to Marathons. Please see below for more details of forthcoming events.
Representatives from our Speakers’ Network attend speaking engagements the length and breadth of Scotland, talking to Rotary Groups, Schools, Churches and a host of other organisations.
We are always looking for new volunteers and speakers. If you would be interested in discussing possibilities in your area, please contact Susie Hope on 01899 830 475 or email susie.hope@mercyships.org.uk
Scottish Events for 2011
The Big Fun Run
The Big Fun Run, organised by GSI Events who also run the Edinburgh Marathon, is a growing series of Fun Runs being staged across the UK. The distance of each run is 5km and organizers are hoping that at least 1000 runners will take place in each event. The venues have been carefully selected. They will all take place within scenic parks that are both safe and pleasant running environments, making this the ideal event for runners (or walkers!) of all ages and abilities.
For more information, please contact Susie Hope, or visit www.bigfunrun.com
Easter Breakfast
Support our 2011 Easter Breakfast Campaign. The idea of this event is to invite supporters to organise their own breakfast event and raise vital funds for Mercy Ships. Click here to organise your Easter Breakfast for Mercy Ships, or call 01438 727 800 for a free fundraising pack.
Edinburgh Marathon - 2011
Mercy Ships will have a limited number of Charity places in the 2011 Edinburgh Marathon which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The Edinburgh Marathon offers runners a personal challenge with a spectacularly scenic route, which takes in many of Edinburgh’s and East Lothian’s famous landmarks and tourist attractions. It is more than just a race – it is a festival of fun with on-route entertainment and finish-line celebrations. If you are interested in running for Mercy Ships, please contact Susie Hope for more information.
There are a variety of other events being organised by supporters across Scotland throughout 2010. If you are organising an event, we can help!
We can offer fundraising ideas, supporting literature and advice about publicity. If you would like support in organising an event for Mercy Ships, please contact Susie Hope.
Also, we are always delighted to get information or pictures (jpeg format) of events which have taken place, so that we can post details on this page. If you have organised an event or taken part in an event on our behalf, please let us know.
Auld Alliance Cycle Challenge 2011……. Get on your bike and transform lives!
We are looking for cyclists of all abilities, and from all areas of theUK, to take part in the Auld Alliance Cycle Challenge 2011 and raise vital funds for Mercy Ships.
The Auld Alliance Cycle Challenge is a unique cycling event, now in its fifth year and run by Prentice Events (www.prenticeevents.com). Prentice Events creates and delivers bespoke charity cycle events which enable participants to raise funds for Schools and related organisations and to support causes that help the education and health of those in greatest need.
Starting with a photocall at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh and then travelling to Hull by minibus, cyclists will travel by overnight ferry to Zeebrugge and from here the 250 mile, 5 day cycle ride begins. Cyclists will enjoy the scenic route through Belguim and into France with the cycle ending along the Champs Elysee in Paris. Cyclists will be split into three groups depending upon fitness and speed and therefore cyclists of different capabilities can be catered for.
Cyclists will be staying in Campanille hotels during the cycle ride and in previous years, Prentice Events have organised a number of civic receptions and ceilidhs along the way in some of the towns where they have forged lifelong friendships with the local people. Once cyclists have completed the ride into Paris, they can enjoy two nights relaxing and taking in the sights before the group heads back to the ferry.
The cost for this event is only £600 per person (payable to Prentice Events) and includes all accommodation on a bed a breakfast basis, overnight ferry crossings including dinner and breakfast, all minibus travel and full support team with bike trailers. Thereafter, we hope that supporters will take up the challenge of raising vital funds through sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues, so that we can continue to transform and save the lives of men, women and children in Africa through the provision of free medical and community development services.
