Running for Mercy

David Clamp, a 43-year-old IT Manager from St Albans, is running in this year’s Virgin London Marathon in aid of Mercy Ships, and has recruited his dog Tugs to keep him company on his long training runs.
David hopes to raise £2000 for the world’s largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, which is currently on a seven month outreach in Togo offering life saving surgeries and vital medical care to many needy people.
David said: “I first heard of Mercy Ships at my local church in St Albans. Learning about the charity inspired me to run the London marathon and support a charity that makes a difference to so many people’s lives.
“I was humbled hearing about the volunteers that give up their lives and volunteer on the Africa Mercy. The Africa Mercy is an incredible vessel and a symbol of hope to many suffering people. I hope that by running the marathon for Mercy Ships I will not only raise money but I will also increase the awareness of the charity.”
David has been training with his dog Tugs, a golden doodle, to keep him company. This will be David’s first marathon and he is looking forward to the challenge and well known atmosphere at London marathon, arguably the world’s most famous marathon.
Mercy Ships has spaces for people to run on its behalf and by raising money and awareness you will personally be contributing to the ongoing work carried out by some of the most generous doctors and nurses working at Mercy Ships.
