Mercy Ships and the Rotary Foundation from Rotary International on Vimeo.

In 2005-2006, Mercy Ships were delighted to be adopted by Mike Webb, the President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland, as his preferred International Charity. By January 2007 we had received £681,000 in donations from Rotary Clubs across the UK and Ireland which funded an ophthalmic operating theatre on Africa Mercy. Thousands of patients with curable eye conditions are now able to see again as a result, and thousands more will receive their sight in the future.

In addition Rotarians have funded and helped in the construction of the Hostel of Hope attached to the Aberdeen West African Fistula Centre in Sierra Leone. In recent years, clubs have also funded the Rotary International Lounge on Africa Mercy. A plaque bears an inscription marking the Rotary support.

We look forward to continuing cooperation with Rotarians in upholding the life changing work of Mercy Ships. With almost 50% of Africans having no access to a hospital or doctor the challenge goes on.

There are a number of ways that Clubs and Rotarians can get involved:

Invite a Speaker
We have over 130 volunteers willing to speak to groups locally, or to represent us at District Assemblies and Conferences. Many of the Speakers Network are ex-crew who have first hand knowledge and stories of life on a Mercy Ship. They give presentations from 20 minutes to an hour about Mercy Ships with photos, and other multimedia to powerfully communicate our life-changing work. Click here to download a Speaker Engagement request form and return it to us at the address provided on the form.To book a speaker by phone, or to request a form by post, please contact 01438 727800 or email fundraising@mercyships.org.uk

Hold a Fundraising Event
There are endless possibilities to raise money and awareness for Mercy Ships - sponsored activities, cake bakes, quiz nights, sports competitions, celebrity evenings, fashion shows, theme nights. These are just a few ways in which you can help and have fun at the same time!

If you’re thinking of hosting an event in your local area, then please let us know and also inform the local media to help raise our profile. We can help publicise your work using our resources, and articles can even be put on our website!
