President Gives Thanks

On 26th November, Her Excellency, President Johnson Sirleaf attended a reception onboard the Africa Mercy.
The event, which was hosted by Mercy Ships to say thank you to local partners, attracted the United Nations Mission in Liberia Special Representative Ellen Margrethe Løj and a number of other UNMIL officials. Members of the American and German diplomatic corp and local church and community partners also attended.
Udo Kronester, Health Care Development Manager, gave the attendees an overview of the different medical and developmental services of the year, saying thank you for their “true and successful partnership” with Mercy Ships in helping these projects come to fruition.
When the President spoke, her words were heartfelt thanks for the hope and healing that Mercy Ships has imparted to Liberians over the last four years. She noted how effective the partnership between Liberia and Mercy Ships has been.
“I know that there are so many of those out there, the young ones, the old ones, the afflicted and the affected, who will be there praying for you, who will be there remembering what you have done for them,” the President said.
“Some of them tomorrow will become leaders of this community. And they will be able to look back and to say, ‘I am what I am today because of the caring and sharing of the Mercy Ship family.’
The President promised to continue working at Royesville and Tenegar, two main areas that Mercy Ships helped develop in health care and agriculture, after the ship leaves.
“We can only commit to you that we will try to ensure that that which you have started will be carried on, will be sustained, so that it can forever be remembered that this came from a partner who brought to the task resources, but also the caring and sharing that comes from great Christians, because that’s what they are.”
