Plymouth Truck Show
Truck drivers from across the South West will be polishing and priming their beloved trucks in the hope of scooping one of the nine prizes at the Plymouth Truck Show in aid of Mercy Ships taking place on the 6th June on Plymouth Hoe. Among the prizes on the day will be ‘Best in Show’, ‘Best Classic’ and ‘Best Customised truck’.
Christine Hartley, South West Community Fundraiser at Mercy Ships, said: “We are very excited about this year’s Truck Show and we are expecting more trucks than ever to arrive on the Hoe. It is an incredible sight and a real fun family day out. Truck drivers travel from all across the South West to be here and they really do take a lot of pride in their trucks.
“We are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Mercy Ships as well as increase the awareness of the charity and the work of the volunteers who give up their lives to help save those less fortunate.”
The Africa Mercy, the world’s largest charity ship has arrived in Togo, on a seven month outreach, offering vital surgeries and healthcare to people who are in desperate need of help. The money raised at the Truck Show will help the 450 volunteers with the equipment and tools that are so greatly needed so they can perform the life changing operations.
John Taylor, a retired truck driver from Holsworthy in North Devon said, “The Truck show is a really good family fun day out. We truck drivers spend so much of our lives in our trucks they become a second home so we look after them and become very ‘Truck Proud’. Leading up to the event I will be getting the whole family involved in cleaning and polishing the truck.
“The work of Mercy Ships is inspiring and I’m sure everyone who enters the Show will do their best to raise as much money as possible for such a great cause.”
Richard O’Connell, Director of Bandvulc, one of the show’s sponsors, said, “Bandvulc are once again pleased to have been invited to help sponsor the Plymouth Truck Show. Road transport is the life blood of the South West and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all truck operators for their determination in riding through difficult trading times and in particular the ones that have gone that extra mile in taking time out to support this show and such a worthy charity as Mercy Ships.”
Christine Hartley, Mercy Ships South West Community Fundraiser said: “We are very grateful to all those who are participating in the Truck Show. It’s going to be a very colourful event and a great day out.
“Without the kind donations and fundraising events such as the Truck Show, Mercy Ships would simply cease to exist so I am encouraging all the truckers out there to contact me and enter the show.”
