London Marathon Runners Support Mercy Ships

It was a bright spring morning in late April when three athletes took on the challenge of finishing this year’s Flora London Marathon, while raising sponsorships for Mercy Ships.

Despite the rising temperature during the early afternoon, all three British runners completed the 26.2 mile course successfully.

The first runner, Dr Emmanuel Gye from Oldham, has been a regular supporter of Mercy Ships since 2004 and feels so inspired that he hopes to volunteer on the ship in the future.

Mark Tennant from Orpington, learned of Mercy Ships through his church, Christianity magazine and a visit to the Anastasis when the ship was docked in London.  As a result, he decided to combine his love of running marathons with raising awareness of Mercy Ships.

The third runner, Tim Sayer, only recently got involved with Mercy Ships after hearing about the charity through the Easter Breakfast Appeal. Tim was so inspired that he chose to support Mercy Ships.

Congratulations to them for all their efforts – physical, mental, and financial.

If you are a runner and would like to support Mercy Ships at Fun Runs throughout the United Kingdom, please go here for more details.

Mercy Ships UK is also recruiting for the Virgin London Marathon in 2010. Not only are we looking for runners, but also for supporters to gather at cheering points during next year’s event!  Contact jane.palmer@mercyships.org.uk for more details.
