Easter Breakfast Campaign

In the lead up to Easter, Mercy Ships is holding its first ever Easter Breakfast fundraising campaign to help improve the lives of the poor and needy.

The campaign to encourage schools, offices, churches and communities across the UK to hold Easter Breakfasts kicks off this week as the Africa Mercy hospital ship arrives in Benin to provide free medical care to thousands of people in need.

Among those holding an Easter Breakfast are the pupils and staff at Glenalmond School in Perthshire who decided to support the charity after hearing a talk by Dr Keith Thomson, a consultant anaesthetist and former pupil who regularly volunteers with Mercy Ships.

Emma Woods, wife of the school’s headmaster, said: “After hearing Dr Thomson speak about his time in Africa and the amazing work the volunteers do on board the mercy ship, the pupils at the school decided to nominate Mercy Ships as one of their chosen charities.

“Our support is starting with a breakfast on the morning of our annual Easter egg hunt on Sunday 13th March, as part of the charity’s Easter Breakfast campaign and the menu will range from a full cooked breakfast and old-fashioned kedgeree to hot croissants and fresh fruit.”

Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, said: “Mercy Ships provides hope and healing to thousands of people.  The volunteers who dedicate their own lives to help others wouldn’t be able to do what they do without the support and kind donations we receive through events such as the Easter Breakfast.

“Having an Easter Breakfast in your office, with your neighbours or at your child’s school is a great way to raise funds and awareness but also to have a good time too.  Every penny that is raised will help save lives and improve the well being of thousands of people”.
