At the United Pentecostal Church in Tubmanburg, the Church Empowerment Programme held a conference from 2nd to 4th September for over 300 church leaders from Bomi County. The main goal of the conference was to create unity amongst the churches in that area and to unify efforts in reaching out to the community. Reverend Chris Ampadu of Ghana was the main speaker of the three-day conference.

The motto of the conference was “unity through partnership in ministry.” It aimed to show how the church is called to get involved in the practical areas.  Right now, the churches are working on Seed Projects, micro-projects such as concern for children’s discipline or providing agricultural tools for the blind. Then because of the unity that the conference created, one church should have the freedom to approach the next for assistance in implementing these projects.

“This is my second time attending such a conference, and it has been a blessing for me and an eye-opener,” said Captain Broton S. Weah, the Pastor (Corps Officer) of the Salvation Army in Tubmanburg. “Since my first encounter, my life has taken a different look, and the desire to see my country prosper has overtaken my whole thinking – having the passion to change the story.”

The conference began with lively, jubilant African praise and worship. Udo Kronester, Programmes Director for the Africa Mercy was the opening speaker. He said the place had a “wonderful atmosphere, filled with peace.”
