On the 6th June at Welwyn Garden City’s picturesque Stanborough Lake, families, businesses and spectators will see teams of  local companies  from across Hertfordshire battle it out in a race across the lake to raise money for Mercy Ships.

The Mercy Ships boat race is in its third year and has proved a popular and fun family day out.

The all important awards ceremony after the race to crown the winners of the 2009 Dragon Boat Race will be presented by Councillor, Kim Langley, Borough mayor for Welwyn and Hatfield.

Trevor Armstrong, employee at Cadcorp and team captain of last year’s winners said: “The Mercy Ships Dragon Boat race is an absolutely brilliant day for the whole family to enjoy and for the local community to take part in.  There is always some friendly rivalry between teams and there is bound to be some very wet competitors.

“We are pleased that we can help support Mercy Ships.  The work they do is very humbling and we are proud that we can help to save the lives of so many suffering people. We are looking forward to competing again this year and hope to keep hold of our trophy.”

Other companies taking part this year include, Fujitsu, Blackmore Quality Management Services, and Eads Astrium who came second last year.  Mercy Ships also has its own team this year which is the hot favourite to win.
