Safe Motherhood
23 May 2013 marks the inaugural ‘International Day to End Obstetric Fistula’ which is being recognised by health organisations around the world, including Mercy Ships.
Mercy Ships provides free medical care and humanitarian aid to the poorest countries of Africa and this year marks the 10th anniversary of its involvement to reduce maternal and infant mortality (Millennium Development Goal #5) through fistula surgeries and education. It is also the 10th anniversary of the UNFPA’s Campaign to End Fistula. read more »
New Ambassador Announced
British Paralympic athlete, Anna Sharkey, has become Mercy Ships newest Ambassador.
Anna, a goalball champion who competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, is a Christian and is passionate about supporting Mercy Ships work to help the poorest of the poor in Africa.

Matching Appeal
There’s still time to have your gift doubled to help TWICE as many hurting people.
Some friends of Mercy Ships have pledged to match donations “pound for pound” up to £130,000, until 30th April 2013.

Marathon Feat for Keith
Mercy Ships UK Trustee, 65-year-old Dr Keith Thomson, is running the London marathon this Sunday and has set himself the challenge of raising 100x his age to support the work of Mercy Ships.
Having overcome cancer since he last ran the race in 2000, Dr Thomson decided to once again take part in order to raise funds to help change the lives of disfigured children and adults in Africa who are treated by the Mercy Ships. read more »
Breakfast Of Champions
Paralympian, Anna Sharkey, is calling on schools, community groups, churches and businesses across the UK to support Mercy Ships 2013 Easter Breakfast campaign to raise vital funds for the world’s largest charity hospital ship – the Africa Mercy.
Mercy Ships is appealing to people across the country to hold breakfast events around Eastertime to raise funds to help Mercy Ships carry out its life saving work in Africa. read more »
Effective Training
With the donation of the Zeiss Meditech MediaLink 100, surgeons onboard the Africa Mercy are now able to interact and train better than ever before. The new video device enables volunteer surgeons to display live footage within the operating theatres for observers during ophthalmic surgeries while also recording it for future training purposes.

Not Just A Ship
Eighteen Mercy Ships Food for Life programme participants recently graduated in Kindia, Guinea. Food for Life, the Mercy Ships agricultural initiative, is designed to train teachers and community leaders in countries where the hospital ship serves.
By partnering with four local Guinean NGOs – Ferme Integree Fabik, Association Pour le Developement Agricole de la Mangrove (ADAM), Groupe Biblique d’eleve et Etudiant de Guinee (GBEEG) and International Rescue Home for Destitute (IRHD) – participants were identified and trained. read more »
