Mercy Ships has raised over £60,000 through its annual Grand Prize Draw. The first prize – seven nights in a charming cottage on the beautiful shores of Loch Fyne was won by Mr Harris from Bristol. This prize was kindly donated by www.cottages-and-castles.co.uk

Second Prize, kindly donated by the Royal Society of Medicine and Raymond Gubbay Productions, went to Mrs Blakemore from Droitwich who wins a weekend stay for two people at the luxurious Chandos House Hotel in the heart of London, plus two tickets to the Classical Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall.

The third lucky winner was Mrs Bird from Troon, who gets a Nespresso stylish retro-modern automatic coffee machine, kindly donated by PFC Group Ltd. There were also five other lucky winners who each receive five rose bushes donated by Harkness New Roses Ltd.

Speaking after the draw, Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, said, “It is wonderful that we have been able to raise this amount of money for Mercy Ships this year, especially as we are in the middle of a recession.

“Our ship – the Africa Mercy – had a successful field service in Sierra Leone this year where the volunteer crew provided free medical and humanitarian services to thousands of people.  That is only possible through the support we receive from our donors, so a big thank you to all of them.”

“Mercy Ships relies on donations and fundraising events to raise awareness of what we do.  Without the kind donations and fundraising activities Mercy Ships would simple cease to exist.  We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity of so many who take part in events and participate in buying and selling our raffle tickets.  Their hard work and dedication is the spirit of Mercy Ships”.

The money raised from the sales of the raffle tickets will be used towards providing essential surgeries and health care that bring hope and healing to so many people suffering at the hands of poverty.
